Song Yuqi, born in 1940 September in Tangfangzhuang, Linmian County, Shandong Province. His childhood was spent on the vast plains of Northeast China. From a young age, he learned painting with his mother and began creating works such as "Wu Song Fights the Tiger" and "Jiang Taigong Fishing" during elementary school years. In middle school, he created "Portrait of Yue Fei" and "Snow Mei," both winning second prizes at the Shenyang City Art Exhibition.
After graduating from college, Song Yuqi entered Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts to further his studies in printmaking. During this period, he created a series of woodcut prints like "Ploughing," "Pasturing," and "Jishun Silk Factory Group Prints." He also published over 300 artworks in provincial and municipal newspapers.
During the Cultural Revolution era, Song Yuqi produced a massive watercolor piece titled "Qing Gong Mishi (Secrets of Qing Court)" that showcased his unwavering spirit.
As time went on, Song Yuqi's career flourished. He served as head of the Literature Creation Office for Liaoning Province and later became an artist at Liaoning Museum. Throughout these years, he actively participated in various cultural events such as promoting art exhibitions for PLA soldiers in 1974 and creating artworks for national exhibitions like his work titled 'Autumn Sounds' which won him recognition at the fifth National Art Exhibition held in 1981.
Beyond painting skills, Song is known for being an exceptional calligrapher who excelled at grass script writing style called Caoshu Jingtie or Grass Script Tieguan; it was said that even after losing hand-writing ability due to an accident involving right-hand injury while riding bicycle that happened to him when he was still quite young but active artistically; however this incident did not dampen his creative spirit nor artistic talent significantly - indeed it seems rather insignificant considering how much depth & breadth there are within each stroke & color employed by him across numerous creations throughout decades – though what made most artists struggle with maintaining consistency across their works!
Song Yugu's artwork has been described by many as having unique qualities where they appreciate certain aspects more than others do about specific pieces yet fail to grasp those same traits found elsewhere because they're just too rare or underappreciated!
